Technology drives business culture: Here’s how

Technology goes hand in hand with businesses. Though the continual disruptions it brings are deemed unwelcome by some, they are nonetheless a necessity for any modern company’s survival. This, therefore, poses the challenge of accepting and adapting to technological changes, lest businesses get left behind.

However, the approach and implementation are what matters here. New technology can either be a propeller for innovation or seen as a toxic imposition. For example, many organizations use technology to implement heavy security controls and time-tracking standards to “watch” their employees. Most employees naturally interpret this as showing distrust; they revert to being protective workers just giving to earn a fair paycheck, with no true care for the company. They may even use their creativeness to exploit the system.

On the other hand, if an organization employs innovative technology with the employees’ improved quality of life in mind—such as facial recognition, biometrics, or the provision of their own password-management tools—workers will be less stressed and aspire for more productivity. Companies could also include business network or video-conferencing solutions for their remote workforce, giving the latter the flexibility to achieve a healthy work and life balance.

Again, new technology need not be detrimental to a healthy business culture. It’s all about keeping in mind the pulse of your employees. For example, you can initiate a poll to find out how the infusion of technology could make work culture better, as well as gain access to your staff’s great suggestions and ideas.
